GUYS AND DOLLS is one of the most famous and often
performed musicals of all time. It is based on a series
of short stories by author Damon Runyon and follow
two gamblers who make a life-changing bet.
The show started life in 1950 at the 46th Street Theatre in
New York. After a US tour and a West End run, it was made
into a highly successful movie starring Marlon Brando
and Frank Sinatra with Vivian Blaine and Jean Simmons.
The movie also featured character actor Stubby Kaye in
one of his finest roles - and musical numbers.
Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat is just
one of the movie's many highlights.
The songs have become musical theatre
standards, but not before becoming hits
for many artists. Frank Sinatra himself
had a hit with Luck Be A Lady, even
though his character did not perform
this in the movie.
GUYS AND DOLLS has been revived
on Broadway as recently as 2009, and
in 2005 Patrick Swayze took to the
boards as Sky in the popular West
End run.
