Official AT THE MUSICALS review.
DISNEY'S ENCHANTED is exactly the kind of movie you'll
readily agree to take the kids to, because unknown to them you
want to see it more than they do. And this movie doesn't disappoint.
From the soaring strings of the opening sequence to the sweet (but
not sickly) end, ENCHANTED affectionately seeks out to make fun of
everything Disney does best.
Fans of the classic movies will enjoy spotting the references - from
the obvious talking animals to the not so obvious cameo roles from
Disney vocalists such as Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid) who can
be seen as a secretary in a law firm.
Amy Adams shows a true love for the Princess genre as she slips
effortlessly into the role of Giselle. Indeed many of the laughs
come from her expressions alone. She is backed by a host of fine
performers, including Susan Sarandon as a delightfully wicked
stepmother/Queen who'll do anything, yes - even poison apples, to
rid herself of Giselle.
