ACT ONE
The dress rehearsal of a Broadway show: the star, Mona Kent, is
going through her opening number when a young gir, Ruby,l enters,
fresh off a bus from a small town. She's looking for a part in a show,
and it's her lucky day - one of the chorus girls left that morning. The
manager gives her the job and she faints from hunger and
excitement right into the arms of a young sailor, Dick. It's love at first
sight for both of them. Chorus girl Joan takes Ruby for a meal and
Mona wastes no time in flirting with Dick, especially after finding out
he's a pretty good songwriter.
Joan bumps into Lucky, an old boyfriend. They find their love
rekindling. Ruby writes a letter to the President confessing her love
for the American Navy, and for Dick. The show's manager has bad
news, the theatre has been sold and will be demolished that very
night!
ACT TWO
Dick and Lucky have an idea, to persuade their Captain to let them
put on the show on the deck of his battleship. It's up to Mona to
persuade the Captain. She is astounded when she sees him,
he is an old flame. She wastes no time in reminding him of their
first meeting. After the Captain leaves, Dick arrives. Mona
persuades him to kiss her. Just as he does, Ruby enters.
