dames at sea - 1968
MUSIC: Jim Wise
BOOK & LYRICS: Robin Miller, George Haimsohn
DAMES AT SEA started life at the Bouwerie Lane Theater,
Off-Broadway starring a then-unknown Bernadette Peters.
Although the show has had a number of moderately successful
revivals, DAMES AT SEA has never played on Broadway. In 1971
it was made into a television special starring Ann Miller and
Ann-Margret.
The show is an affectionate spoof of the Busby Berkely movie
musicals of the 1930s, and manages to feel new yet
familiar at the same time. The story concerns Ruby, a young
girl who wants to be a star. On the way to becoming
the star of the show, she finds friendship and romance.
