We are at the European motor races, cheering on the Paragon
Panther, as she effortlessly passes every other car, including the
Vulgarian Vulture. Attending the race, Baron Bomburst of Vulgaria
expresses his desire to own the Paragon Panther. However, in
England, tragedy strikes when she crashes.
Flash forward a few years, and instead of attending school, the Potts
children happily play on the now-scrapped Panther unaware of her
previous life. Mr Coggins, owner of the scrapyard informs them he is
selling the car, but they can have first offer - for 30 shillings. They are
given a ride home by a lady named Truly Scrumptious, who has
stopped by to get her motorcycle fixed. She is unimpressed with
them not being at school. She meets their father, inventor
Caractacus Potts, who informs her in no uncertain terms that it is
none of her business. She is impressed by his inventions but is
rebuffed when offering a solution to a problem with his
sweet-making machine. All the sweets have holes in them!
She leaves, and the inventor discovers that when blown, the sweets
make a tune!
