CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, the "most fantasmagorical musical"
in the history of everything, was originally a book written by Ian
Fleming who rose to fame with his James Bond series. The movie
was released in 1968 with a screenplay by Ken Hughes and another
famous author, Roald Dahl. Beyond having the same author, the
movie kept close links with James Bond - including the producer
Albert Broccoli. A couple of the supporting cast also made their
names in James Bond movies.
The Childcatcher has been featured on many lists of the scariest
movie characters of all time including Channel 4's 100 Scariest
Movie Moments.
The songs were written by the Sherman Brothers, famous for most
of the hit Disney songs of the period including the songs for Mary
Poppins,The Jungle Book and the It's A Small World theme park ride.
In the West End, on Broadway and tour many actors have followed in
Dick Van Dyke's footsteps as the inventor Caractacus Potts. They
include Gary Wilmot, Michael Ball, Raul Esparza, Craig Maclachlan,
Brian Conley and Jason Donovan.
