A slum in Bombay. We are introduced Akaash, a young man who
lives there with his family and friends. He dreams someday of being
famous, but is laughed at. The inhabitants are trying to raise money
to save their slum from developers, but are too late. Contractors
tell them the land has been bought, besides they would need
millions to buy the property. As fate would have it, a lawyer has heard
about their fate and arrives to offer his services. People are skeptical
of the lawyer Vikram, but eventually agree, what do they have to lose?
He has brought with him his fiancée, Priya. Learning that she is
involved in the movie business, Akaash asks her for help. The only
problem is, the only work she is involved in is the Miss India
pageant. Akaash and his friend Sweetie, a eunuch, hatch a plan
to sneak into the contest.
Priya's father, Madan persuades Priya to fix the contest so that he
can win a bet. He needs the money to hire Rani, a beautiful actress,
for a movie he is producing. As the winner is announced, Akaash
gatecrashes, grabs a microphone and starts to perform. He is
arrested, but Rani, taking a shine to him, convinces the police to free
him, and will only appear in the movie if Akaash is her leading man.
On set, Akaash has troubles with his character. Priya takes him
aside and gives him valuable advice. The two are clearly
falling for each other.
