ANNIE is arguably the most performed musical in the world. It has
become a favourite of schools and amateur dramatics groups due
to its rags-to-riches plot and memorable songs. It is based on the
comic strip Little Orphan Annie. Since opening in 1977, ANNIE has
had several major revivals worldwide and twice been made
into a movie.
Both movie casts read like a veritable who's-who of
Broadway. Some of the stars include Tim Curry,
Bernadette Peters, Kristin Chenoweth, Carol Burnett,
Andrea McArdle, Ann Reinking, Victor Garber and Audra
McDonald. Two unsuccesful sequels have been produced,
as well as a movie sequel starring Joan Collins.
