Hen-pecked by his wife, Mr Zero is secretly in love with a Daisy, a
girl at the department store where he works as a clerk. Unknown to
him, Daisy is also in love with him. Mr Zero has been trying to get up
the courage to ask his boss for a raise, for he has been employed
by the company for twenty-five years. His courage fails him when he
discovers his boss doesn't even know his name. Insult is
added to injury when the boss informs Mr Zero that his
services will be no longer required as he is installing new
adding machines to do the work. In a fit of rage, Mr Zero kills his
boss. At his trail, Mr Zero is found guilty of murder and must face
the death penalty. He orders eight courses of ham and eggs
as his final meal.
Now dead, Mr Zero meets another corpse, Shrdlu, who has
killed his mother, and is now longing to be punished for his
crime. Meanwhile, overwhelmed with grief at Mr Zero's
execution, Daisy kills herself. They meet in the Elysian Fields
where Mr Zero is granted a wish to have another chance
on Earth.
